However, Takashi Saito gave up eighth-inning solo home runs to Martin Prado and Dan Uggla -- the first time in 294 career appearances he allowed two homers -- and the Brewers fell 2-1.
Bullpen meltdowns are already becoming a pattern for Milwaukee. Gallardo's six solid innings were wasted in Thursday's season opener, as John Axford blew the save in the ninth and the Brewers lost 7-6 when Cincinnati's Ramon Hernandez hit a walk-off three-run homer.
With Milwaukee's bullpen having given up a major league-worst six home runs and sporting a 6.23 ERA, Gallardo (0-0, 3.00 ERA) might have to go deep into Tuesday's matchup for the Brewers to end their worst start since opening 0-6 in 2003.
"We know we're still good," second baseman Rickie Weeks said Monday after homering for the third time this season.
Good or not, Milwaukee continues to have trouble beating the Braves. Atlanta (3-1) has won five straight and seven of eight at Miller Park, outscoring the Brewers 40-10 during the five-game win streak.
That kind of production could be more than enough for Derek Lowe (1-0, 0.00), who gets the ball for the second time this season.
Making his third straight opening day start for the Braves, the 37-year-old right-hander had six strikeouts and allowed three hits in 5 2/3 innings of Thursday's 2-0 win over Washington.
"Probably the best I've seen him pitch in a long time," said Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth. "His ball was sharp."
Lowe is 5-1 with a 3.40 ERA in nine career starts against Milwaukee.
He will likely be throwing to All-Star catcher Brian McCann, who hit .462 (6 for 13) with a team-high five RBIs in the season-opening series against Washington, before occupying a reserve role in the opener of this series. He is 2 for 10 with two doubles against Gallardo.
Uggla has just one hit in nine at-bats against the Milwaukee right-hander, but the Braves' new second baseman is feeling more comfortable at the plate after his second home run of the season barely cleared the fence Monday.
"I was maybe a little bit overanxious on my first three at-bats," Uggla said. "To get the go-ahead home run, that was a pretty cool thing. It's my first week with a new team in the season and a lot of excitement."
Weeks, batting .417 (10 for 24) with three home runs during a six-game hitting streak versus the Braves, is 5 for 12 with two homers off Lowe.
Atlanta has won nine of 12 against Milwaukee overall.
