The right-hander has totaled 13 1/3 innings over three starts during his first season with the Marlins. Vazquez allowed three runs and walked four in five innings, but did not get a decision in a 4-3 win at Philadelphia last Saturday.
"Javier struggled with his location, but he battled," Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said.
Facing Colorado could be what Vazquez needs to get back on track.
Though he has not faced the Rockies since 2009 while with Atlanta, Vazquez has a 2.00 ERA while winning three straight starts against them. He is 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA in eight career starts versus Colorado.
Gaby Sanchez and Chris Coghlan homered Friday as the Marlins beat Colorado (13-6) for the third straight time at Sun Life Stadium.
The Rockies, who had their six-game road winning streak snapped, have lost four of six after winning seven in a row. They have totaled five runs during the three-game skid at Florida.
"For us to play good on the road is important," manager Jim Tracy told the Rockies' official website.
Fowler is 4 for 11 with two RBIs over the last three games for the Rockies, who were coming off their highest-scoring game this season in Thursday's 10-2 win over San Francisco.
Troy Tulowitzki went 0 for 3 Friday, and is 3 for 15 in four games following an eight-game hitting streak in which he batted .517 with four homers and eight RBIs.
Jason Hammel (1-1, 4.76) looks to bounce back from his first loss when he tries to beat Florida for the first time in four career starts. The right-hander did not pitch poorly, allowing three runs in six innings of an 8-3 loss to Chicago last Saturday.
Hammel is 0-3 with an 8.22 ERA against the Marlins, with two of those starts coming in Florida.
Though Florida star shortstop Hanley Ramirez is mired in a 2-for-19 slump, he is 6 for 10 with a double and home run versus Hammel. Gaby Sanchez's only hit in four at-bats against him left the park.
