Houston Astros vs Cincinnati Reds mlb live stream online broadcast major league baseball feed ESPN 360 gamecast Star tv highlights 4/5, 2011 The Cincinnati Reds are trying to embrace the chance to build an early lead over their NL Central rivals.

After sweeping one division foe, the Reds will open a three-game series against the Houston Astros on Tuesday, looking to start 4-0 for the first time in 21 years.

The defending NL Central champions are alone atop the division after a three-game sweep of Milwaukee over the weekend. Cincinnati closed the set with a 12-3 win Sunday, getting four home runs among its 19 hits.

A win at home over Houston on Tuesday would give the Reds their first 4-0 start since 1990, when they led their division wire-to-wire en route to their last World Series title.

Cincinnati knows beating its division rivals is key. It went 49-30 against the NL Central in 2010, including 10-5 against Houston (0-3).

The Cincinnati Reds are trying to embrace the chance to build an early lead over their NL Central rivals.

"Whoever we play against, it's very important," second baseman Brandon Phillips said. "We've got to try to get as many wins as possible because we're not trying to wait until the last minute to try to clinch something. Of course, it's important to beat teams in our division."

Phillips hit a three-run homer Sunday, finishing the day 3 for 6. Ryan Hanigan also had a big performance, going 4 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs as 12 players hit safely.

"Everybody contributed," manager Dusty Baker said. "It can be contagious. It was just a big weekend, and to go 3-0 against a team you know is going to be there at the end is big. But there's still a long way to go."

The Reds will try to provide similar offense for Mike Leake, who will try to build on a solid rookie season.

Leake went 8-4 with a 4.23 ERA in 2010. He was just the 21st player since the draft began in 1965 to bypass the minor leagues altogether to make his major league debut. He won his first five decisions.

"Each year is going to be a progression, and the maturity level slowly comes," Leake told the Reds' official website. "It's not going to be easier but I will know what to expect."

The 23-year-old right-hander, who was 1-1 with a 2.33 ERA in three starts against the Astros, will be opposed by J.A. Happ, who had his original start pushed back from Sunday because of a mild strain of his right oblique.

Happ was acquired from Philadelphia on July 29 as part of the deal that sent Roy Oswalt to the Phillies. The left-hander, who spent three months on the DL with a strained elbow, went 5-4 with a 3.75 ERA in 13 starts with the Astros.

Happ didn't face the Reds last season. In his only outing against them, he gave up three runs and struck out seven in seven innings of a 4-3 loss in 2009. He did not factor in the decision.

Happ will look to help the Astros bounce back following a tough opening weekend after they were swept by Philadelphia, losing Sunday's finale 7-3.

Wandy Rodriguez and Bud Norris struggled in starts in the final two games. Each lasted only four innings, giving up 12 runs and 15 hits.

Norris allowed two first-inning home runs Sunday, and the staff compiled a 7.40 ERA in the three losses.

"There's a lot of season left. We just have to get it going in Cincinnati," said Hunter Pence, who went 3 for 4 with a home run Sunday.

The Astros started last season 0-8.
