After the Braves (13-14) learned that starter Derek Lowe was arrested by state troopers Thursday night for DUI, reckless driving and improper lane change after being spotted racing another car in Atlanta, pitching coach Roger McDowell was placed on administrative leave Friday for allegedly making homophobic comments and crude gestures and threatening a fan with a bat prior to last Saturday's 5-2 win in San Francisco.
Lowe is still scheduled to start Sunday's series finale, while McDowell's full punishment won't be known until Major League Baseball concludes its investigation.

"There's some lessons here to be learned by everybody," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "You look at how you handle the situations that come at you, and hopefully making a positive outcome out of negative situations."
The Braves failed to do so Friday, losing 5-3 in 11 innings as Cardinals second baseman Nick Punto delivered a go-ahead triple in the 11th.
"Obviously, it was a more melodramatic day than usual," Braves starter Tim Hudson said. "But tomorrow is a new day. We'll come out and try to win that one."
St. Louis (15-11) has won three in a row and seven of nine.
"I can't feel better about our club," said manager Tony La Russa.
The Cardinals will get their first look at Brandon Beachy (1-1, 3.68 ERA), who is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in his last two outings -- both on the road. In his last start, the rookie right-hander surrendered two runs and three hits in six innings of Sunday's 9-6, 10-inning victory at San Francisco.
Beachy, though, is 0-1 with a 7.15 ERA in two starts at Turner Field this season.
St. Louis counters with Jake Westbrook (2-2, 7.40), who closes out what has often been his worst month. The veteran right-hander is 8-17 in April, but he gave up just three hits in six innings in his last start Sunday, beating Cincinnati 3-0.
Westbrook had his best start of the season despite pitching on three days' rest for the first time.
"I felt great. It was kind of one of those things where coming into the night that didn't even cross my mind at all," he said following his 87-pitch outing. "It was just a matter of going out there and being better than I have been."
Westbrook, whose offseason home is about 90 miles from Atlanta in Danielsville, Ga., is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in two starts at Turner Field. In his last start there -- his first in Atlanta since June 19, 2004, while with Cleveland -- Westbrook allowed two runs in six innings of a 6-3, 12-inning loss Sept. 11.
Westbrook could get more run support Saturday considering the Cardinals are batting .348 and averaging 7.8 runs while winning nine of 12 on the road.
Right fielder Lance Berkman went 1 for 4 on Friday to snap his string of multihit games at seven, but he is batting .492 (29 for 59) with eight homers and 21 RBIs in his last 15 games.
Braves right fielder Jason Heyward hit a solo homer Friday and is batting .419 (13 for 31) with three home runs and seven RBIs while hitting in seven straight.
Chipper Jones is also looking to extend his hitting streak to eight.
