The Braves (7-8) will hand him the ball Sunday as they look to build on the momentum of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Mets (4-11) following Friday's rainout.
After Alex Gonzalez hit two of Atlanta's four solo homers in 4-2 win in the opener, Jair Jurrjens pitched two-hit ball over seven outstanding innings in his season debut as the Braves won the nightcap 4-0, beating New York for the ninth time in 10 meetings.
"It's a good feeling being able to help your team," said Jurrjens, activated off the 15-day disabled list before the game.
Atlanta has won 22 of 29 at home against the Mets, outscoring New York 139-49.
The Braves appear to have an excellent chance to continue their dominance in the series with Hanson on the mound. He is 3-1 with a 1.76 ERA in five starts versus New York, allowing four hits over 14 scoreless innings in a pair of wins at Turner Field.
That doesn't bode well for the Mets, who have dropped seven in a row to match the third-worst start in franchise history.
Saturday was the second time in three days New York was swept in a doubleheader after it lost twice to Colorado on Thursday. The losing streak is the team's longest since an 11-game skid in 2004.
The Mets totaled eight hits Saturday, going 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position. The top three hitters in the lineup -- Jose Reyes, Angel Pagan and David Wright -- were a combined 2 for 23 with seven strikeouts in the doubleheader.
"The talent's here," said Mike Pelfrey, who took the loss in the second game. "It's just a matter of going out and doing it.
"Looking at our lineup, I like it. These guys are going to hit. These guys are going to score runs. It's going to be fun when they start doing it."
With two doubleheaders this week, the Mets have made extended use of their bullpen, including 7 1/3 innings Saturday. That will place added pressure on Dillon Gee, who will make his first appearance of the season Sunday.
The 24-year-old right-hander is expected to be called up from Triple-A Buffalo after Chris Young was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with biceps tendinitis in his pitching arm.
Gee went 2-2 with a 2.18 ERA in five starts last year. He faced the Braves on Sept. 18, allowing three runs and six hits in seven innings of a 4-2 loss.
MetsIn his next start, he'll try to follow an equally impressive outing by one of his teammates.
