Game Review: The St. Louis Cardinals just missed tying a franchise record with 14 hits in six consecutive games. That's one of the few things the Cardinals have missed at the plate lately.
After getting 14 or more hits in their previous five games -- the longest such streak since a franchise-record six-game stretch Aug. 31-Sept. 7, 1930 -- the Cardinals (8-7) had 13 hits -- including five straight in the ninth off Ramon Troncoso -- in Saturday's 9-2 victory.
St. Louis, batting .376 and averaging 9.4 runs while winning six of seven, has won seven straight against the Dodgers.

Newcomer Lance Berkman has a team-best six homers and 12 RBIs on the team's 10-game trip that ends Sunday, but with the veteran getting Saturday off, the Cardinals still received great production from the right fielder position with Allen Craig, a native of Temecula, Calif., going 3 for 4 and hitting a three-run shot in the fifth that knocked out starter Clayton Kershaw.
"After that home run, a 5-1 lead is pretty tough to come back from, especially when they're playing the way they are right now," Kershaw said. "They're swinging the bats really well."
Carpenter (0-2, 5.82 ERA), 6-0 with a 1.77 ERA in eight starts against the Dodgers, will try to stay in Sunday's game longer than his last start as the Cardinals go for their first four-game sweep in Los Angeles since July 1-4, 1968.
The veteran right-hander lasted just four innings in Tuesday's 13-8 loss at Arizona. It was the first time in 163 starts with St. Louis that Carpenter gave up eight hits and two home runs in the same game.
"It's just one of those nights. I don't really have a lot to say," he told the Cardinals' official website. "I made good pitches, I made bad pitches. No matter what I threw in there, they hit it. I'm not going to concern myself a whole lot with it. Get ready to go on Sunday."
Carpenter's last 0-3 start was with Toronto in 2000.
The Dodgers (6-9), whose starters are 0-4 with an 8.39 ERA during their five-game skid, are hoping Chad Billingsley (1-1, 7.71) can give their bullpen a break in the series finale.
The right-hander is likely glad to be back home after falling to 0-5 with a 4.08 ERA in his last eight road starts with Tuesday's 5-4 loss to San Francisco.
Billingsley had a 3-0 fourth-inning lead, but needed 60 pitches to get through the fourth and fifth innings when he allowed four runs.
"The ball found holes," Billingsley, who has squandered leads in all three of his starts this season, told the Dodgers' official website. "I felt I executed but it didn't turn out the way I wanted to."
Billingsley is 1/3 with a 6.16 ERA in six starts against St. Louis. The last time he faced them, the Cardinals had 14 hits -- 10 off Billingsley -- in an 8-4 home win July 16.
Albert Pujols, hitting .435 (10 for 23) with three homers and six RBIs in the last five games, has three hits in 15 at-bats against Billingsley.
Los Angeles' last six-game slide was Sept. 4-9.
CardinalsAbove .500 for the first time this season, St. Louis goes for its fifth straight victory and first four-game sweep visiting the Los Angeles Dodgers since 1968 on Sunday when Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter tries to rebound from one of the worst starts of his career.
