Teheran (0-1, 5.79 ERA) is starting in place of Brandon Beachy, who is on the disabled list with a strained left oblique muscle. The rookie right-hander will be sent back down to Triple-A Gwinnett after this start, but he'll first look to help the Braves continue rolling.
Manager Fredi Gonzalez was impressed with Teheran's first start, a 3-0 loss to Philadelphia on May 7 when he allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings. Gonzalez praised the youngster's poise during his major league debut and is excited for the next outing.
"I'm anxious to see how he does," Gonzalez told the team's official website.
Chipper Jones and Jason Heyward made appearances Tuesday after nursing injuries, though it's unclear if either will start Wednesday. Jones went 1 for 5 after missing the previous two games with a small meniscus tear in his right knee.
Heyward, who has inflammation in his right shoulder and missed six straight starts, went 1 for 3 with two walks and a stolen base.
The Diamondbacks (18-23), meanwhile, look for their fourth win in five games following a five-game losing streak.
Arizona beat San Diego 6-1 on Tuesday as Miguel Montero went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and threw out a base-stealer.
He has caught only four of 19 runners attempting to steal this season.
"It's been rough," Montero said. "Your attitude gets a little frustrated when you aren't throwing many guys out. I work on it every day, man. Probably been working too much, I would say."
The Diamondbacks will send Joe Saunders (0-5, 5.48 ERA) to the mound as he looks to bounce back from his rough start. The left-hander allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings of a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
Saunders hasn't won since Sept. 21 against Colorado, a span of 10 starts.
"I think I've pitched better than the numbers show. I keep falling short, but you've just got to keep your head up, control what you can control and go on from there," Saunders said following his last start.
However, Saunders beat the Braves in his only career start against them on June 15, 2008, pitching 7 1/3 scoreless innings while pitching with the Los Angeles Angels.
The Braves and Diamondbacks split four games in Arizona last season.
