Melky Cabrera is batting .435 (10 for 23) with four doubles, a triple and a home run against Guthrie. His two-run homer provided the only runs Wednesday for the Royals, who have averaged 2.5 runs while losing nine of 11.
Kansas City's 5-13 road mark is the worst in the majors.
"You know, we're not really playing bad," designated hitter Billy Butler said. "We'll snap out of it."
Though his team has struggled, Cabrera has four homers and 15 RBIs his last 19 games.
Jeff Francis (1-5, 4.23) tries to extend a consecutive scoreless stretch of 14 2/3 innings when he takes the ball for the Royals. After he allowed three runs in eight innings at Detroit on May 14, Francis yielded six hits in 7 2/3 innings of a 3-0 victory over St. Louis on Friday for his first win in 15 starts since he last won July 30 with Colorado.
"I'm still 1-5," Francis said. "As much relief as there may be, it's a long year."
Francis has posted a 2.05 ERA his last three starts despite going 1-2.
The left-hander is 0-2 with a 5.79 ERA in three starts against the Orioles. Francis allowed five runs and walked four in 5 2/3 innings of a 6-5, 10-inning win over Baltimore on May 3.
Baltimore's Mark Reynolds is 9 for 22 (.409) with a pair of doubles against Francis.
