Philadelphia Phillies Vs New York Mets MLB Live Streaming Baseball Online Radio Transmission Power Ranking Roster Espn Review May 29, 2011. Early Match Review: Philadelphia's Vance Worley baffled the New York Mets last month in just his third career start. He's getting another chance to face them with Joe Blanton back on the disabled list.
"Back-to-back late-inning wins, it's great for us," said starter Cole Hamels, who struck out 10 in seven innings for his seventh win. "To get 'em late in the game, you build confidence off that, knowing you can never count our team out."
The Phillies have won eight of 11. They've scored 16 of their 26 runs over the last four games after the fifth inning.
Philadelphia will try to keep the offense going in support of Worley (2-0, 2.14 ERA), who is making his fourth start this year.
Worley was called up from the minors this week for the second time in place of Blanton. He allowed three runs in five innings of a 6-3 loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday.
Worley made two starts earlier this season, also in place of Blanton. His first was against the Mets on April 29, when he yielded two hits in six scoreless innings in a 10-3 victory.
In 21 innings this season, the right-hander has allowed five runs and 15 hits. He threw an extra bullpen session this week in hopes of building up arm strength and improving his command.
"Every start matters. Everything counts," he told the Phillis' official website. "I just want to have the best stuff I can to help them out and give us a chance to win."
Worley will try to help Philadelphia complete its first three-game road sweep of New York since taking Sept. 14-16, 2007. The Phillies have won six of eight between the two this year.
The slumping Mets (23-28) have lost six of seven, averaging 3.3 runs. Most troubling is its bullpen has gone 0-3 with a 12.46 ERA over that stretch.
"We're in this together and we're going to get this turned around," said Saturday's starter Mike Pelfrey.
New York will try to bounce back as it hands the ball to Jonathon Niese (3-5, 4.33).
Niese suffered his first loss in four starts after surrendering six runs -- two earned -- in five innings of an 11-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.
The left-hander threw seven scoreless innings against Washington in his previous start on May 18.
Niese has lost his last three starts against the Phillies, including two this year. After giving up six runs in four innings of an 11-0 loss on April 7, he was sharper April 30, allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings of a 2-1 defeat.
Howard has struggled against Niese, going 1 for 10 with four strikeouts. However, Placido Polanco is 6 for 16 with four doubles.
