Correia, trying to become the first Pirates pitcher to win his first five outings away from home in a season since Don Robinson won his first seven road starts in 1982, isn't surprised by his recent success.
"I knew I was better than the numbers that I put up, but there was always that little doubt going in," Correia told the Pirates' official website. "...I know I'm going to have a better year than I did last year."
Correia limited Colorado to three hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings of a 3-0 win on Friday.
"He's not trying to do too much," said Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen, who has one hit in 16 career at-bats at San Diego (12-18). "That's the key thing. He's just been hitting his spots and getting his outs. That's all you can ask for."
Padres probable starter Clayton Richard (1-2, 3.82) is coming off back-to-back losses, including a 3-2 defeat at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. He allowed two runs and a season-worst eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.
The left-hander has allowed just one unearned run in two career starts against the Pirates, going 1-0 with 13 strikeouts in 12 innings.
Richard is 0-4 despite a 2.88 ERA in his last seven home starts dating to last season thanks largely to a lack of offense.
San Diego, which ranks last in the NL with 93 runs, defeated Pittsburgh 6-5 on Tuesday night and has averaged 5.3 runs -- 2.2 more than its season mark -- while winning three of four.
Mat Latos sparked a three-run third inning and became the only Padres pitcher to homer at PETCO Park with his second career long ball. Catcher Rob Johnson's tie-breaking home run in the eighth put San Diego up for good.
"It's no secret we've been struggling offensively so far this season," left fielder Eric Patterson said. "But to battle back like we did, says a lot about the character of our team."
Heath Bell closed out the win to match Trevor Hoffman's franchise record of 41 consecutive saves. San Diego's bullpen owns the second-lowest ERA in the majors (2.37), trailing only Pittsburgh's mark of 2.32.
Padres second baseman Orlando Hudson (right hamstring) and Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez (right quad) both exited Tuesday and are uncertain to play. Pittsburgh outfielder Jose Tabata, who leads the team with nine stolen bases, has missed three straight games and likely won't return until Friday.
