San Diego Padres Vs Washington Nationals Live Streaming Baseball League Online Radio Commentary Power Ranking Transmission May 29, 2011. Dustin Moseley has done a great job adjusting to the National League this season, but he doesn't have much to show for it. That could continue if his San Diego Padres don't improve at the plate.
Signed to a one-year deal after spending 2010 with the New York Yankees and the previous four seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, Moseley has become one of San Diego's most reliable starters even though he only began the season in the rotation because Mat Latos was on the disabled list.
Moseley (1-6, 3.15 ERA), though, is among the NL leaders in losses greatly because his run-support average of 1.65 is the worst in the majors.
"I would rather give up a couple (runs) every night if it meant we could win a ballgame. That's for sure," Moseley told the Padres' official website. "Winning ... it's what we're here for. For me to say I'm satisfied with me doing well, that's not it at all."
The right-hander had lost three straight starts before not earning a decision Monday, when he gave up one run over seven innings of a 3-1 loss to St. Louis.
Moseley, 1-1 with an 0.45 ERA in three day starts, can't count on getting much offensive help Sunday. The Padres (21-31) have gone 11 straight games without scoring more than three runs, the team's longest such stretch since a 12-game run Aug. 26-Sept. 7, 1972.
San Diego, though, might have found a new source of offense in rookie center fielder Blake Tekotte, who had his first two career hits in Saturday's 2-1 victory, including an RBI triple.
Logan Forsythe also notched his first major league hit Saturday for the Padres, who had dropped eight of 10.
"We're looking for offense in whatever form it will come in," said manager Bud Black, whose team hasn't won back-to-back games since a season-best 3-0 stretch May 14-16.
The Nationals (22-29), losers of 11 of 15, have had their own problems on offense, scoring three or fewer in seven of 10 games.
"We just didn't get it done offensively. There's not an explanation for it," said manager Jim Riggleman, whose team is batting .227 -- one point higher than the Padres.
Washington, held to nine hits through two games of this series, will try to get back on track with Yunesky Maya expected to make his season debut in place of injured left-hander Tom Gorzelanny (elbow inflammation).
Maya, 0-3 with a 5.88 ERA in five starts for Washington in 2010, went 1-4 with a 3.79 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Syracuse this season.
The Cuban right-hander will face San Diego for the first time.
Washington's Michael Morse, 11 for 26 lifetime against Padres pitching, had his franchise record-tying streak of four consecutive games with a home run snapped Saturday, but the Nationals have homered in a season-best five straight after Laynce Nix went deep for the seventh time.
Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth is hitless in seven at-bats in this series and has no RBIs in the last seven contests.
