San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves MLB Live Streaming Online Radio Station Major League Baseball Reviews May 31, 2011. With a rough outing against Atlanta in April, Mat Latos tied a San Diego Padres record by losing his ninth consecutive start. Latos should feel much better about his stuff heading into this matchup with the Braves.
Coming off his best start of the year, the right-hander looks to help the Padres to a season-high fourth consecutive win Tuesday night in Atlanta.
Latos (2-6, 4.08 ERA), though, is coming off a season-high eight-inning effort in a 3-1 home win over St. Louis on Wednesday. He surrendered one run while striking out seven and didn't walk a batter for the first time this year.
"I thought he looked hands down better than he's looked all year," Padres third baseman Chase Headley said. "He finally had his weapons available and was throwing strikes."
The Padres (23-31) have provided 1.8 runs of support per start for Latos, and they'll try to improve upon that as they seek their first four-game winning streak since a 5-0 stretch Aug. 15-19.
"As a group, we've really had a tough year," manager Bud Black said after Kyle Phillips' go-ahead solo home run in the 10th inning lifted San Diego past Atlanta 3-2 on Monday. "Now we're starting to see some guys starting to climb as far as average-wise, which is great."
The Padres get their first look at Mike Minor (0-1, 5.40), who makes his third start of 2011.
In his first appearance since April 6, the left-hander replaced the injured Tim Hudson on Wednesday and allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings of a 4-2, 11-inning victory over Pittsburgh.
Minor is likely to be optioned back to Triple-A after Tuesday's game with the club not in need of a fifth starter until June 11.
Minor will likely be throwing to catcher Brian McCann, who has batted .733 (11 for 15) with four homers and seven RBIs in his last four games at Turner Field.
McCann is 3 for 9 with two doubles off Latos.
Chipper Jones, mired in a 1-for-16 skid after popping out as a pinch hitter Monday, was out of the starting lineup because of his ailing right knee. He is expected to start Tuesday.
"If (my torn right meniscus) ever gets to the point where it was the day I got the MRI (on May 15), we might need to make a decision," he told the Braves' official website. "It's doable now."
Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin could miss a fourth straight game due to a sore right knee. Rookie Blake Tekotte would likely get another start in his place.
San Diego's Ryan Ludwick drove in two runs Monday and is among the NL leaders with 22 RBIs this month.
Braves left fielder Martin Prado is batting .353 with five homers and 19 RBIs during a 19-game home hitting streak. He is 4 for 12 with a double and a homer off Latos.
