"My command was the worst it's been all year, that's for sure," he told the Brewers' official website after his ERA rose nearly a full run. "I felt physically really good, but where I wanted to throw it and where it ended up were two opposite things."
Wolf (3-3, 3.38 ERA) has yet to face the Padres since joining Milwaukee as a free agent in December 2009. He's 6-5 with a 5.18 ERA in 14 career games against San Diego, and will try to cap the Brewers' first home sweep of the Padres since May 19-21, 2003.
Milwaukee (16-20) got nine strikeouts over six innings from Greinke in his long-awaited home debut Monday, then staked Marcum to an early eight-run lead Tuesday before holding on for an 8-6 win.
"I consider to be pretty blessed to catch guys of this quality for sure. It's pretty fun for me because they're so talented and so at the top of their game," said the Brewers' Jonathan Lucroy, who matched career highs with three hits and three RBIs.
Though Marcum won his fourth straight decision, rookie manager Ron Roenicke wasn't too pleased with his staff.
"We're winning 8-0 and we've got our setup guy in there, who we really didn't want to bring in, and we had to use our closer again," he said. "We finally score a bunch of runs, we need to hold them down."
San Diego (14-22) set a season high with 13 hits, but is still last in the majors with a .219 batting average.
"They didn't quit. They kept going," Padres manager Bud Black said. "We got the same amount of hits as they did, just fell two runs short. The guys showed a lot of heart."
As the Padres seek to avoid the sweep, Tim Stauffer (0-1, 2.61) will try to end a personal streak of five straight starts without a decision as he makes his first career start versus Milwaukee.
The right-hander has given up six runs and 22 hits in 30 2/3 innings since losing to San Francisco on April 6, but has received just seven runs of support.
Against Arizona on Friday, Stauffer was reached for four hits -- the fourth straight game in which he's allowed that many -- in 6 2/3 scoreless innings of the Padres' 4-3 win in 11.
Stauffer has no record and a 1.17 ERA in four career relief appearances against the Brewers.
San Diego first baseman Brad Hawpe, who's gone 4 for 10 in his last three games, has struck out eight times in 18 career at-bats against Wolf.
