San Diego Padres vs Washington Nationals mlb live streaming online audio feed radio commentary with espn 360 review May 28, 2011. Short Review of the upcoming match: Positives have been hard to come by lately for the Washington Nationals. Michael Morse's recent play certainly qualifies as one.
However, Morse answered on the first pitch from Mike Adams in the bottom half with his sixth home run, lifting Washington to a 2-1 victory that snapped a five-game skid.
"The pie that was great. That was awesome. The full Gatorade bath," Morse said. "That was something I'll never forget."
Morse, batting .424 (14 for 33) in his last 11 games, is the first player from the Washington-Montreal franchise to homer in four straight game since Chris Widger in 1999.
Rookie Danny Espinosa also went deep for the Nationals (22-28), who returned home after losing seven of eight on the road.
Washington is 12-9 at home compared to 10-19 on the road.
Jayson Werth went 0 for 4 in his first game after saying Wednesday "changes" had to be made to the struggling Nationals. Some inferred he meant manager Jim Riggleman.
"Changes need to be made. We need to start winning ballgames. We need to start hitting the ball. We need to do what we've got to do to win games. That's all it was," Werth said. "What happened from the end of the game in Milwaukee until today had nothing to do with me. That's just people making up stories and saying things that they don't know what they're talking about."
San Diego (20-31) lost for the sixth time in seven games. The Padres have scored three or fewer runs in each of their last 10 contests, the club's longest such stretch since doing it in 11 straight July 9-21, 1976.
Bartlett is one of the few Padres providing any offense, batting .319 with 13 RBIs in his last 17 games.
Tim Stauffer (0-3, 3.88 ERA) knows all too well how much trouble the Padres have had scoring. The right-hander has allowed three or fewer runs in seven of his 10 starts, but remains winless while ranking among the NL leaders in worst run support. He's received only 2.48 runs per game.
Stauffer gave up three runs and a career high-tying 11 hits over six innings Sunday in a 6-1 loss to Seattle.
He made his only start against the Nationals on July 25, 2009, and lasted one inning before a lengthy rain delay. Stauffer allowed two runs and three hits in a 13-1 loss.
Werth is 4 for 8 with a home run against Stauffer.
Jordan Zimmermann (2-5, 3.98) looks to continue a run of solid starts for Washington. Since allowing five runs in back-to-back starts in April, the right-hander is 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA in four outings this month.
He was outstanding through the first six innings at Baltimore on Sunday, yielding two baserunners on a walk and a double before giving up a two-run homer to Vladimir Guerrero in the seventh, resulting in a 2-1 loss.
Zimmermann has never faced the Padres.
PadresMorse looks to homer in a franchise-record fifth straight game and lead the Nationals to a fourth consecutive home win Saturday against the San Diego Padres.
