Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants MLB LIVE STREAMING Online Baseball Coverage Radio Commentary Espn 360 Gamecast June 5, 2011. After struggling through most of May, Troy Tulowitzki looks primed for a big June.
Tulowitzki and the visiting Colorado Rockies try for back-to-back wins for the first time in almost three weeks as they close a three-game set with the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
Tulowitzki, whose .209 average in May was his lowest in a month with at least eight since batting .200 in April 2009, went 3 for 4 and drove in a run to help the Rockies snap a six-game losing streak at AT&T Park.
"You never know when you're going to get on one of those streaks," Tulowitzki said. "I've definitely put in the work in the batting cages. To have success on a day we win is rewarding."
Though the All-Star shortstop has just five RBIs and no homers in his last 16 games, he is batting .421 while hitting safely in all five games of Colorado's current nine-game trip.
"This is what he has coming to him," manager Jim Tracy said. "Several of the balls he's hit have been vicious line drives that end up in a fielder's glove. Sooner or later those things are going to turn."
Tulowitzki will look to stay hot at the plate against Ryan Vogelsong (3-1, 1.77 ERA), who has allowed one run or less in five consecutive starts. He gave up one over five innings but didn't factor in the decision of Tuesday's 4-3 loss at St. Louis.
In his only career start versus Colorado, the right-hander held the Rockies to one hit and one walk over 6 1/3 innings of a 3-0 home win May 8. He has a 0.38 ERA in four home games this season.
Vogelsong will be opposed by Jason Hammel (3-5, 3.89), who is 0-4 with a 5.40 ERA over his last five starts.
The right-hander is coming off one of the poorest outings of his career. He allowed season worsts of seven runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings of Monday's 7-1 road loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"I'm going to forget about this one," Hammel told the Rockies' official website. "Not good ... a lot of strikes but a lot of bad strikes."
Hammel is 0-1 in four career starts at San Francisco despite a 2.66 ERA.
Aubrey Huff has gone 7 for 15 with two homers against him, but he's hitless in seven at-bats in this series following a three-homer game at St. Louis. Andres Torres is 4 for 9 with three homers off Hammel.
Giants second baseman Freddy Sanchez, who received a routine day off Saturday, is batting .442 with three homers during a 10-game hitting streak versus the Rockies. His .362 career average against Colorado is his second-highest against any NL opponent.
San Francisco, which has lost three straight one-run games at home after winning its first 11, was 0 for 3 with men in scoring position Saturday.
"We had some early chances and squandered a couple of good opportunities," manager Bruce Bochy said. "We couldn't get a hit with runners in scoring position and when you're in a tight game like that, that's what it takes."
