That's because starters C.J. Wilson and Jered Weaver have each won six straight decisions heading into their matchup Thursday in Anaheim.
It's difficult to envision such a game unfolding in the finale the way Wilson (10-3, 3.11 ERA) and Weaver (12-4, 1.90) have been pitching.
Not to be outdone is Wilson, who is 6-0 with a 2.80 ERA in his last 10 starts. His 124 strikeouts rank sixth in the AL, one spot ahead of Weaver's 123.
"We've got our work cut out for us with C.J. on the mound, but I like the guy we've got going, too," Angels left fielder Vernon Wells said. "So it'll be a fun series finale. Hopefully we can end this thing the right way."
Weaver has never lost at home to the Rangers, going 6-0 with a 2.57 ERA in 10 outings and winning the last five.
Texas, meanwhile, has won Wilson's last five starts against Los Angeles (52-46). He is 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA in those games, and 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in two this year.
The left-hander is a Southern California native who is 0-1 with a 2.31 ERA in two career starts in Anaheim.
Both pitchers won Saturday. Weaver allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings in a 4-2 victory at Oakland, and Wilson gave up one over seven innings for a 5-1 win at Seattle.
They are also both unbeaten in day starts. Weaver is 3-0 with a 1.30 ERA in four outings while Wilson is 4-0 with a 2.87 ERA in eight.
These pitchers started against each other twice in 2010. Weaver went 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA in those games while Wilson was 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA.
Elvis Andrus is 4 for 7 with a homer against Weaver this year, and Michael Young is 3 for 7 with two doubles.
Howie Kendrick is 3 for 7 against Wilson in 2011 and 10 for 28 in his career.
Kendrick broke out of a 1-for-18 slump with three hits and four RBIs on Wednesday. Los Angeles rallied from a five-run deficit with a six-run sixth inning.
"These are the type of games that can turn things around," Wells said.
The victory moved the Angels back within four games of the Rangers for the AL West lead.
"We'll come out (Thursday) ready to play," Young said. "We're going to take the same approach no matter what happened the night before. In that sense, that's one of the biggest strengths of our team. We move on pretty easily."
