"It gives us more confidence, winning another game on the road against a team in our division," McCutchen said. "I believe it's three now, right? That's great."
Confidence will be required against Johnson (2-0, 1.35 ERA), already off to a strong start after leading the NL with a 2.30 ERA in 2010. He took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and struck out nine Wednesday to earn a 5-1 victory at Atlanta.
The right-hander, who exited after allowing rookie Freddie Freeman's double in the eighth, also held the New York Mets hitless for six innings on opening day.
"That guy is some kind of kid," Atlanta's Chipper Jones said about Johnson. "He's going to have his day."
Johnson is 1-0 with a 2.40 ERA in two career starts against Pittsburgh. No current Pirate has had more than five at-bats against him, but Jose Tabata is 3 for 4.
Florida (8-6) returns home after a 5-3 trip, taking two of three in both Houston and Atlanta and splitting two games in Philadelphia.
"It's a great road trip, a positive road trip," third baseman Greg Dobbs said. "We can come back in games and we're not intimidated by anybody. We're going to fight for everything. We're going to get better as the season goes along."
The victories have come despite a lack of production from Hanley Ramirez and Mike Stanton. Ramirez -- a career .355 hitter against Pittsburgh -- is batting .244 with four RBIs and four runs scored this season. Cleanup hitter Stanton is 6 for 31 with three RBIs. Neither has homered.
Ramirez is 6 for 16 against probable Pirates starter Paul Maholm (0-2, 2.33), who is 0-4 with a 5.90 ERA in his last seven road starts. Maholm's losses this season have been at home, including Thursday's 4-1 defeat to Milwaukee in which he yielded two runs over seven innings.
The left-hander has given up two first-inning runs in each of his losses.
"I would much rather have come out and put up a zero in the first and let our guys relax and not put us behind," Maholm said.
Maholm is 3-4 with a 4.89 ERA in seven career starts against the Marlins.
Struggling Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez had Monday off due to his .193 average. He could return Tuesday since he batted .345 with nine RBIs against the Marlins last season.
Florida took five of seven from Pittsburgh in 2010.
Pirates 0After their best offensive output of the season, the Pirates will be up against Josh Johnson on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game set with the Florida Marlins.
