Los Angeles Angels Vs Minnesota Twins Match Review with Live Streaming Links and Radio Commentary May 29, 2011 Major League Baseball. The Los Angeles Angels managed only one hit in support of Jered Weaver in their last game. Dan Haren is very used to having such little offense when he's on the mound.
Haren will try to avoid extending a seven-game winless streak as he takes the ball for the Angels in the finale of their series against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday.
The Angels wasted an outstanding outing by Weaver, who struck out seven and allowed only two hits in nine innings.
"Any loss is frustrating, but it's a little frustrating to lose that way," Weaver said. "But what are you going to do? You keep going."
Peter Bourjos broke up Swarzak's no-hit bid with a one-out double in the eighth. It was the fourth time this month that Los Angeles was shut out.
The lack of support is nothing new for Haren (4-2, 2.13 ERA), who has the fourth-lowest ERA in the AL. He is coming off his worst start of the year, giving up five runs and seven hits -- including two homers -- in seven innings of a 6-1 loss to Oakland on Tuesday.
The Angels have scored seven total runs for Haren during the right-hander's seven-game winless stretch. His last victory was against the Chicago White Sox on April 17.
"I'm kind of used to it, actually," Haren said. "The starting pitchers have been walking a fine line, that's for sure. But I think it makes us better pitchers, going out there and battling from Pitch One."
Haren is 2/3 with a 3.49 ERA in seven starts against the Twins. Jim Thome, who is 0 for 4 in the series, is 6 for 13 with two homers and one triple against Haren.
Minnesota (17-33) is trying to win just its second series at home and first since taking two from Cleveland on April 23 and 24. The major-league worst Twins are 6-14 at home this year.
It may be hard to build on the momentum with the inconsistent Carl Pavano (2-4, 5.28) on the mound.
Pavano is winless in his last five starts. After a pair of promising outings in which he allowed one earned run, the right-hander gave up four runs and nine hits in seven innings of an 8-7, 10-inning loss to Seattle on Monday.
Pavano, though, is one of the few Twins playing well at Target Field, going 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA in four starts at home. He is 3-1 with a 4.32 ERA in five starts against the Angels.
He's had particular trouble against Alberto Callaspo, who had three hits in Friday's win but went 0 for 3 Saturday. Callaspo is hitting .462 in 26 at-bats against Pavano with two homers, four doubles and one triple.
The Twins learned Saturday that they could be without reliever Joe Nathan anywhere from 10 days to a month after he was placed on the disabled list due to soreness in his surgically repaired elbow. He's the fourth Minnesota reliever to go down, joining left-handers Jose Mijares and Glen Perkins and right-hander Kevin Slowey on the DL.
