Seattle Mariners vs Chicago White Sox MLB Live Streaming Online Baseball Radio Commentary Internet Video Feed Espn 360 Gamecast Experts Review Broadcast 5/8. It's been more than two years since Seattle beat the White Sox in Chicago. It only seems that long since Gavin Floyd allowed a run against the Mariners.
After holding an 8-2 scoring advantage in the first two games, Chicago (30-33) tries for a fifth consecutive victory overall against Seattle, which has not won in Chicago since April 28, 2009. The White Sox have outscored the Mariners 97-46 while winning 14 of 15 meetings at U.S. Cellular Field.
Chicago's 5-1 victory Tuesday matched a club-record 10-game home winning streak over the Mariners, who also dropped 10 straight on the South Side from 1982-83.
"Different ballpark, but same game," Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak said. "I guess it's just a coincidence."
Floyd (6-5, 3.84 ERA) is 3-4 with a 4.92 ERA in 10 career starts versus Seattle, but has not allowed a run in 22 innings over his last three starts against the Mariners dating to last season. He has yielded 13 hits and struck out 18 while going 2-0 during that span. Floyd gave up three hits in eight innings of a 6-0 win at Seattle on May 7.
"He pitched good," Seattle second baseman Adam Kennedy told the team's official website. "He didn't get in a lot of trouble."
Floyd has a 2.61 ERA while winning two of his last three starts, including last Wednesday when he gave up four runs in 6 2/3 innings of a 7-4 victory at Boston.
"You just try to keep your focus and have faith," Floyd said.
He'll again use that approach while trying to help Chicago to a third straight victory and seventh in nine contests. Chicago's Paul Konerko homered for the second straight game Tuesday after missing a pair of contests due to minor wrist surgery.
"It definitely doesn't stop me at the plate," said Konerko, who has four homers in his last six games and hit .536 (15 for 28) with 10 RBIs his last eight.
Konerko is batting .413 with nine homers and 15 RBIs during a 14-game home hitting streak versus Seattle. He is 3 for 5 with a home run against scheduled starter Jason Vargas (4-3, 3.96), who is coming off his first complete game since 2005.
After he surrendered six runs in three innings of a 7-1 loss to the Yankees on May 29, Vargas tossed a four-hitter en route to a 7-0 win over Tampa Bay on Friday.
"You've seen (Jamie) Moyer (spotting pitches and change speeds) for a long time," Kennedy said. "For some reason, the lefties that master that seem to have a lot of success -- and Jason is one of them."
The left-hander was not consistently able to do that last season when he posted a 5.73 ERA without a decision in his only two previous starts versus Chicago.
Franklin Gutierrez had two of the six hits Tuesday for Seattle (31-30), which has lost three of four. Gutierrez is batting .200 in 18 games this season since coming back from a bout with stomach gastritis.
After hitting a career-low .210 in May, Ichiro Suzuki is batting .167 (5 for 30) in June following an 0-for-4 effort Tuesday.
Suzuki, however, is a lifetime .379 hitter versus Floyd.
